Default Restricted performance

Hi all,

I have a 2009 XJ Sovereign 2.7TDVI that when started every morning displays the "restricted performance" message. Icarsoft scanner and my own mechanic can find no codes associated, and the car is driving fine with no restriction in performance whatsoever.

If I drive and warm the car up say for 15 minutes, start it again and plug in, it will erase and turn off the message and orange light, and this stays off until the next morning when i get into the car and start it again from cold. There are no codes showing for anything, however when I read the codes using icarsoft, and it comes back no error codes, and I click erase fault codes the light and restricted performance message disappears.

Sometimes on a motorway blast it will reappear, then I pull over, turn the ignition off and on again and it disappears!

I am totally baffled.

Try removing the battery leads and touch them together for a few mins.

im having a similar problem with my XJ 2014

harsh acceleration causes it go in limp mode but switching the car off, locking, and restart it goes away!

i callled the green flag man out and he couldn’t see anything wrong or any fault codes which is strange

Any thoughts?

Possible fault related to the TPS,TB and associated wiring, connectors etc.

Post Restricted Performance ...

@Arsenal01

Modern 1989-2009 Jaguars have been throwing the "Restricted Performance" message since their first mile on the roads.
It is caused by all sorts of issues and combinations of issues from a simple vacuum leak to bad cats to touchy Mass Air Flow or MAP or intermittent spark or dirty O2 sensor, random transmission codes to bad wheel speed sensors to an electric brake malfunction to an improper vehicle height reading somewhere in the air suspension controls. I have even seen a improperly clamped down air filter box cause it.

So you need a bit more details and more thorough and complete diagnostics utility that can actually read all the two dozen +/- computer modules codes reliably on all three communication busses.

FOR POSTERITY:

I had a similar issue- would come on in the morning when about 1/4 heated up, then after engine was fully warmed up would not come back. Every day. Same exact scenario. Oddly, it would trigger an injector fail for cylinder 1, and that would cause a lean misfire.... reset when warmed up, no issue.

Read somewhere on here where a person had RP from an ABS connection. What the heck I thought.

I disconnected and reconnected the ABS plug 3 or 4 times.

RP GONE. 3 days now and hasn't returned. I am baffled, but I assure you I did nothing else.
