Default ride height sensor test

Hi all. Got a small quirk going with the 04. When I bought the car, it had a deceased right front strut and a bad left front wheel speed sensor. I replaced both front struts but not rears and the speed sensor, easy peasy jobs. I have been driving it with no issues other than an "air suspension system failure" notice in the odometer accompanied by the yellow light above it. This alert comes on seemingly at random, but once its on it remains for the duration of that drive time. The car seems to ride fine and I don't see any loss of height or ride quality when it is on. I have been unable to detect a pattern to it i.e. certain bump in the road, weather, ambient temp, sun, shade, inside, outside, full tank, parked on a hill.... yada yada yada. My gut says its a funky height sensor and i plan to "CAREFULLY" remove them one at a time and rinse them out with some brake cleaner. My bit of research seems to say they are simple rheostat units so i dont think I would damage them this way. Have I got a viable plan here or should I "close the hood and step away?"

The ASM will have a DTC logged in the module if you really want to know the fault that is detected?

"air suspension system failure"

"System failure" words are unusual IMO

You need the codes as has been said

Ok, great. Can I access these codes with my "regular" code reader? Or do I need a dealer tool?

You will need code reader that can read C-codes for the ASM, most likely SDD/IDS (the Jaguar tool). The height sensors are hall effect senors, not rheostats. Should not really be accessible for cleaning. They don't commonly go bad, but it's possible. I would find out the codes. Common issues are reservoir plausability (indicates the compressor is failing) or exhaust valve (corroson issues, can be cleaned).

For future reference: I hooked my "Innova 3100" code reader to the car and started it. The code reader showed no codes- an excellent result. Then the "air suspension fault" light came on while the code reader was still hooked up. The code reader did not register a problem. I can proceed with my sensor cleaning plan or I can take it to a dealer to have it diagnosed since I do not personally have access to a Jaguar code reader. I think we know what will happen. Thanks for your input, I will keep us posted.

If your "Innova 3100" code reader only reads P codes (powertrain) then you will not be reading C (chassis), B (body) or U (network) codes.
