Road Noise or Something Worse?
Been driving the new Jag to work lately and the more I drive it the more I notice things I want address. First is the clunking from worn bushings and suspension components, much like the links, thrust arms and ball bearings I previously replaced on my 2008 VDP. Easy work there and I might even swap out the air suspension while I’m at it.
That brings me to the topic listed in the Title. Between 30-50 mph and not gassing it, I hear what sounds like tire to road noise. It tends to die out as I I slow down to 10 mph towards a halt. Thought it was a wheel liner that may have been rubbing against a wheel and once secured, still hear it. Today I came to a stop and heard the air compressor hiss at the same time the noise died out and car came to its stop.
Could that noise be coming from the compressor? Previous owner had just replaced it and front driver airbag. I’m 100% new to air suspension on jags as my VDP was converted as soon as I acquired it. I’ll be performing tranny service including the converter, spark plugs, coils, brakes and oil change plus all filters. Any help or insight is greatly appreciated.

If your going to keep the air suspension I would recommend getting a working SDD system. All the air system codes can be read with that as well as many service functions like leveling the car.
With the age of the car I would be replacing all the rubber hoses and replacing the coolant too.

The air compressor only runs for a few minutes before a thermal cutout cuts it off. How long does the noise go on for ? What tyres do you have on the car ? I once fitted a couple of Wanlis to a Rover 75 I had. They are cheap tyres, and I was feeling particularly impecunious at the time. All the time when cruising I got this awful droning that only disappeared when I replaced them.
