I did a search but didn't find anything on this. The driver's seat belt in my '04 XJR doesn't retract well, a common problem I have had on many cars. I guess the springs get weak, but when I take the belt off I have to almost feed it back into the spool to get it to retract. If I don't I end up with the belt hanging out the door or slamming the door on the buckle. If I toss the belt back in the car it will sometimes slowly retract on its own, but other times I get back in and find I'm sitting on the belt. Does anyone know of a fix for this short of replacing the retractor assembly? Is there an easy/cheap fix? Thanks.

 

Mine does the same on a 2004 xj8. Although, it retracts a bit faster than what you describe. Would be interested in hearing a fix for this.

 

That's a real nuisance.

I don't think you can get into the reel because of safety reasons.

They are available used.

 

Try pulling it all the way out first, make sure it isn't flipped/folded closer to the reel...see if that helps it retract too. Exercise, not just for humans.
