Default Serpentine belt $950----yikes!

Dealer says I need a new serpentine belt but it is now discontinued and the only one available is a new design that requires replacement of all the pulleys at a cost of $950. They are going to check with the warranty, but do not believe it is covered.

Any suggestions?

It just occured to me. Even if what the dealer said is correct, there must be enough NOS belts out there to last years even if Jag dealers don't have them. AllJags will install your parts if they have to. They don't encourage it but------.
Call NAPA and CarQuest auto parts.

Is this the belt for the supercharger? I just had the dealer tell me the same thing about that belt.

It just keeps getting better. If I worked at one of these places I would be embarrassed to tell people that.

Here's the break down: $500 labor, $160 for 2 belts (did not realize there is a serpentine belt AND a supercharger belt), $290 for a pulley, tensioner & bracket so really it is the labor that makes this an expensive proposition. They're going to file a warranty claim with the extended contract, but even Jaguar would not cover it because I brought up the TSB 3 years ago and was told it was not warrantied.

Since Jaguar no longer makes the belts for this car and I have never changed them, at 81K miles it probably needs to be done.

Any idea where I can get them?

There is nothing unusual about the belt, they are available at any auto parts place. I like to use Continental belts, so I call around until I find them. If you contact JPAM, Coventry West, Motorcars ltd, Welsh, and so on, they will all have them.

Sadly the problem I have run into is that Jaguar discontinued them and redesigned the pulleys. No one has the old belts so basically it is going to cost almost $1K to change the belts.

I remember when the TSB came out 4 years ago or so and Jaguar would not cover it under factory warranty, the dealer service of course said don't worry about it.

So here I am now with glazed belts and non available. Isn't there some sort of trade policy that stipulates manufacturers have to support the products they make?

Strange the dealer would have said that. Those setups were replaced under warranty on many cars and i've even done them on Rovers. The supercharger is scheduled to be replaced at 100k and the main belt at 150k. I've not seen many last that long due to cracking. The latest bulletin for SQUEAKING came out in 2009 and updated everything like you said. They may not cover it cause the car it "out of the VIN range" i don't know as I don't work there.

Found out Carquest had Jaguar factory parts In stock for about half price so I'm going to do the TSB update myself for less than $200!

Project completed. Motor seems quieter and supercharger no longer makes a rattling noise under heavy acceleration.
