Default Service brake imbalance on front axle

Hello experts.
I took my car for the yearly tests and registration. The tests pointed some issue with the brakes, saying there is an imbalance of 31% that i need to correct before it can be registered. Anyone please shed some light on that. Is this something that can be DIY or need to be taken to a garage for any reason. Also what would have caused it ?

Thanks in advance.

A sticking caliper or the caliper piston is the most likely cause. Most shops nowadays will just put a new caliper on as putting new seals onto a piston is OK, but the labour charge soon mounts up, and then they have to warrant the job, not the caliper manufacturer.

+1 on what fraser wrote. Just let me ad that most likely they will mount two new calipers with new pads. And perhaps new discs......

I agree with you. FYI, the brake pads were replaced with new genuine pads a few months back and the car hardly driven for some 6-7k after that. also the discs were polished at the same time. So probably no one wants to put there hands in the job as they may not have a reason to pile up the bill. One garage however opened it to check and I think in the process has done the correction (not so sure). But he insisted to leave the car for further checks (so that he can scare me more with safety concerns and ask me replace parts as you said) I'll take it for a test again check out the result. Keeping fingers crossed.

Will keep you posted.

Thanks.

Personally if it were me I would buy some new pads, slap them on, get the pass, then put the old ones on. Not like the pads are going to expire. Then it is up to you to either fix it yourself or find a shop. But at least you can drive the car.

but here it is not the problem with the pads... it is some sort of imbalance... dont know what and why is that .
