Default Some hose info for 04-05 4.2SC engine owners

Hello all, just want to pass some info on to you all here in case it might help out someone else.

So, as some of you may know I recently replaced all the hoses in my 05 SV8 due to three of them staring to leak. I had all of them except for one, the upper rad hose, since I ordered the wrong one. In 06 (maybe sometime in 05 possibly?) they changed the upper rad hose, so you need to be very specific for the pre 06 supercharged engines. Anyway, I called up my dealer and asked about that hose, they told me two things, first it was $140 CDN (about $110 US), and NLA. Great, they stopped making it and it was crazy expensive. I checked around online and found that you can still get it at some places, but it was still around the same price. I was not going to pay that much for a little hose, when the new version they started using was only like $25. So, it got me thinking, maybe it's the same hose as used in the STR? It is the same engine setup after all. Checked part number with Jag, and they say nope, completely different hoses, with the one for the STR being half the price. Hmm, what to do.

Well, it just so happens I have an STR too, so popped the hood and looked at the hose, looked the same. Checked the number on the hose (that weird Jag one that starts 2W93 or whatever) and guess what, other than the last two letters (revision numbers I think), it's identical to the one in the SV8. Ok, so looks the same, Jag numbers say they are the same, and the STR part is readily available and half as much. That's good enough for me! I ordered the STR hose and finally got around to installing it yesterday. Guess what, it fits perfectly and, therefore, is the same part. So, to anyone out there with the 04-05 4.2 SC engine in their x350 that needs to replace that upper rad hose, forget the XJ part and get the part for an 03 STR. You'll save money and is still available from Jag.

Upper Rad hose for supercharged 4.2 X350 to VIN G49700 = C2C16212 (Expensive (>$100 US) and apparently NLA)

Upper Rad hose for 03 S-type R = XR851818 (Cheaper (~$55 US) and still available)

*These prices will vary of course depending on where you are getting your parts, but overall, the trend is the same, the STR part is basically half the price.

Thank you very much,...., I need that hose and can't source it. As a matter of fact, my 2004 XJR has almost 150K miles and I would like to change all of the coolant hoses,......., to bad there isn't a kit available.

Thanks for the heads up!

Robert

I was thinking of getting all my receipts together and putting the list of all the hoses up, seems lots of people are thinking of changing them all out. As mine started to go at around 180,000 miles, others are starting to hit these higher mileages now so a complete list may help! I'll see what I can do over the next few days.
