Default Sound system

Guys/gals:
I need some help in troubleshooting my stereo. The car is a 2004 XJR. Problem is no sound on radio settings, no sound with single CD. When I push the CDC button, I get nothing. It won't even allow me select that option. Help!

TIA.
Bill

I had a problem similar to this about 10 years ago on my X350 at the time, it even blocked the telephone sounds, it was the main amplifier in the boot ( trunk), might be worth asking about that first

If you lose all sound then there is a failure in the fiber optic network, a bad module or could be that the of the fibers has unplugged (seen that a few times).

If there is a break in the fiber loop, you have no sound.

This is a fairly common problem on this jag and it has happened to me, only briefly,

and a couple of times in about nine years of ownership.

Mine came back on it's own after ignition off and back on.

I suspect it could be a dodgy connection on the D2B fibre optic

connection.

Maybe have a poke around back of amplifier unit and if not

that the head unit.

+1 on the amplifier. It's easy to remove and give it a smell. If it smells burnt then you found the culprit.

Gents,
I think my problem is in the ignition switch. I noticed all of the things powered when key in number 1 position stayed on when key was out.... weird. So, I disconnected the battery and reconnected it: everything off until I turn the key to position 1 again.... then stays on unless battery disconnected again. During this maneuvering, the radio sound now works, but I think I need an ignition switch. The key has a lot of play before engaging.
