Default Squealing brakes while driving

About 2 days ago I observed a new condition. After coming to a stop for about 10-30 seconds after resuming driving my brakes squeal. This happens about 1 out of 5 times. Then this morning, while still an intermittent issue, they squealed continuously for about 5 minutes while driving.

Thoughts?

Brake squeal is a common syndrome, but normally only when braking. Your problem suggests the caliper is stuck and so the pads are not coming off the disc when releasing the pedal. How many miles on the car, and when were the brakes last checked ?

Front brakes were checked within the past couple of months, 84K miles on the ODO. Fluid was flushed too.

Also, these are Brembo calipers, pads and rotors. Still have about 10K or so miles left on them.

I think it is just the LH front. Very annoying to drive around with a squealing car!

Squealing while in motion? That sounds rather alarming...must be a caliper issue.

My car's brakes squeal badly but I have been told repeatedly by the mechs that this is simply due to dirt/age, and the discs are fine. A bit irritating but just draws attention to my lovely automobile.

Sometimes the brakes squeal when applying them lightly but it is a different type of squeal. Sometimes the squealing while driving goes away when I apply the brakes.

Assuming you do not like this noise, then it is really time to do some serious investigative work involving the front calipers, and probably some repairs. Unfortunately Brembo calipers and discs will not be cheap to fix. A seal kit and some cleaning up may get you out of trouble though.

To stop squealing brakes apply copperslip (high melting point grease) to the back of the pads.

Jahummer-I had a slight scraping noise recently which turned out to be the corrosion on the outside edge of the disc scraping against the caliper.
It may be that you have the same problem but much worse?

I did that when I did the rear pads a couple of months ago. This squealing is continuous but comes and goes on its own while driving. When i apply the brakes I get a different or additional squealing but only if braking lightly, firm braking = no squeal.

Just to be clear what I am talking about, I have always found Brembo pads to be noisy under light braking and best performance and no noise when braking firmly. This is NOT what I am talking about in this thread.

Something is not right and you need to look into it sooner rather than later. I would look for a loose caliper, broken mounting bolts. etc.

You're a good man Charlie Brown and we need you around a bit longer.

Due to time, I had the brakes looked over by a Jag tech. He could find nothing unusual but suggested it could be the brakes and to go ahead and perform another flush, pad and rotor change even though I have almost 50% left. Looks like I will do this next week.

FWIW I was driving on I-75 today and even at those speeds I could hear the squealing come and go on its own without applying the brakes. I hope that's what it is.

All in all I suppose that the suggested "shot gun" approach works. One can only speculate on what that Jag Tech dude would have suggested if you had an engine misfire.

I had the same problem and I ended up changing the rotors and pads and now the the noise is gone
On my end it was fine braking but when on the road it would whistle
It was a cost
I know I got screwed paying 800 for the factory rotors & pads I just didn't want to take a chance with anything else

Squealing became a non-stop issue at all speeds, even freeway speeds unless I applied the brakes, then it would go away.

Anyhow, replaced rotors and pads and found nothing out of the ordinary. Bottom line is so far the noise is gone, which is a good thing!

I just wanted to ask what did you ended up paying for it?
Did you use Jag parts?
Thanks

Purchased zinc plated rear rotors for $96 pair @ Brake Performance and drilled fronts for $246 pair (non-drilled are less). Compared to the Brembo rotors they seem identical. I believe they are made by Centric. I went with Brembo (Textar) pads but found them on Amazon for less than half of what the dealer charges.

I dealt with this issue for 2 months. Then I finally had to ask my mechanic did he calibrate the parking brake correctly. He says he did. But he didn't. When you replace the pads, you must reset the parking brake module by unhooking the negative cable from battery. If you don't do that, they wont re-calibrate properly. I drove around with scraping noises at low speeds and when entering driveways at an angle because of this. He unhook negative cable and noise was gone immediately. I believe this is a must for 2006 or so onward.
