Stereo cutting out/volume buttons freezing
Hi all. I have a 2006 XJ super V8. 75k miles. Recently I've noticed that when I'm playing music through any source (FM, AM, CD, rca inputs in the rear entertainment) the music will cut out followed by a very faint beep. It will do this about 5-6 times, for about 5 seconds, and then not happen again for a long time. While it happens, the volume controls also do not respond, but the NAV and everything else non stereo related is fine. I've noticed it also accompanies a "please wait" message on the rear entertainment controls in the back center console. Any idea what this stereo bug could be?? Thanks!
I've checked the diagnostics screen and no DTCs come up. Tried undoing battery terminals. Touching negative to still connected positive to reset everything. Turned off and on other things to see if it was somehow connected. No luck. I had the battery tested, but when it was still connected. Said it was totally 100%. What could this be? Very frustrating.
I am certainly not an expert but if everything else still functions it sounds like you have an audio signal that is cutting out somewhere. Have you had any work done in the dash or left rear/trunk of the car? I'd start by checking all the connections at the rear of the stack of modules in the trunk. I'd also pull the console and check the connections at the back of the audio and touchscreen units.
There is a common fault with the Alpine Premium system, yes Premium! and the symptoms are that audio goes off and vol control has no effect but mimic moves up and down.
Switch ign. off and on and the audio is restored.
It has happened to me about three times in 5 years!
