Default A tale of two MAF's

Ugh! So, which is "the only MAF to get?"

Bought an '08 X358 with 80k miles. LOVE IT! But, it had a CEL when I bought it for a bad MAF sensor. I checked a few things first, found a few minor vacuum leaks, but nothing fixed it. So, I replaced the MAF with one from the parts store. The original was a Denso, the new one was a generic because that's all the shop had.

So, now, the bad MAF code is gone, but it runs like hot garbage at low speed. Fuel trims are WAY low around -24, and I keep getting error codes for running rich in both banks.

Switch back to old Denso sensor after cleaning it, I get the bad MAF code again, and fuel trim rises way high to +25.

Switch back and forth with similar changes every time I switch sensors. So I give up. This can't be right. Maybe there is something to getting exactly the right MAF sensor. So, which one should I have ordered in the first place?

Many thanks!

Just a thought had you disconnected the battery and let it all reset?

I bought my XJ8 back in 2012 it had only been a around town car

I drove it from Sydney to Melbourne then back up to Qld got that MAF code twice on the way home replaced it and reset the parameters with my sdd software ran fine.
Just a idea I also bought a over the counter MAF

I did the first time, but I'll admit getting lazy and not doing every time I've changed back and forth. I'll give it another try because that's not a bad idea. Thanks.

Hello it feels like it takes longer for the trims to adjust on my XJ once I changed the MAF. I've used two different types of MAF sensors. Denso (just recently replaced) and the delphi . Both were work well, but I switched to the Denso because of a random P0101.. I still get the code (very rare), but the Denso works great.
