Default Telephone Install?

I want to install a phone for use with the Navigation system on my '04 VP. Which phone works best and what is required?

Do I have to go to Jaguar to have installed?

How much should I expect to pay?

I was thinking I would just add an additional line to my current cell phone account, buy the correct phone for the Jag, and do call forwarding on my iPhone to the Jag's cell phone. I would then replicate my address book to the Jag's cell phone for outgoing calls.

What do you think?

I have a 2005 S-Type but was told that phones that work with an XJ of that year will also work with my car.

The problem was that I have another Bluetooth equipped car and my phone had to work with both. I also have Verizon service.

I used the Jaguar web site (not the telephone salesman) to find that the Blackberry 8330 works well with both of my cars including the phonebook. The only issue I have is that when the cars are parked side by side, sometimes I can't go from one to the other without manually disconnecting and then re-connecting with the other car. However, once I do that, this phone works well.

My dealer noted that to "install bluetooth" it would cost about $2000. I bought an "external" bluetooth unit (Blackberry VM-605) for $60! This unit works through it's internal speaker or via the FM radio. It allows a choice of multiple FM stations. This allows one to bypass the 87.7 station issue. This works with my blackberry, but I believe it will work with other phone types. This is the way to go. I can't recommend this enough. You could place the bluetooth unit on the visor or anywhere else that would allow you to access. You simply have to touch the unit to answer or make a call. It's a nice alternative.

My Sony Ericsson cell phone was easy to set up entering the code suggested in the '08 Jag's owner's manual for bluetooth feature. My phone's contacts list also uploaded easily and works to make and take calls.

Ditto for my 2007 XJ8 with a Blackberry Storm. I love how I can be on the phone as I walk up to my car and once I start the car the conversation continues through the cars bluetooth and I can lay my phone on the seat and take off.

This is a question pertaining to the possible installation of an older Cell Phone in circa 1993 into a 1993 XJS Coupe just left of the left fuse box.
I am new to this car and found a four wire shielded cable with a red, black, slate. and a braided wire plus the shield. It is alleged that there could have been a cell phone installed in the car. Black and red wires are usually power lines and the braided wire acts as shielding. I don't know the usual purpose of the slate wire. Does anybody have a clue on the use of this four wire cable or suggestions

Will post on XJS Forum
