Question Trans Linkage Question?

Found the wife a very nice 05 S Type, says the 04 XJ8"s Too big. Was reading how the linkage often loosen up leaving you stuck in park, or the linkage dropping out. Is this problem common to out cars? My XJ8 linkage shifts from park without putting your foot on the brake, and is sloppy feeling, when compared to the S Type's. When i did the filter, pan over to steel, filter, looked at the sleeve area, on yhe XJ8, never thought, or knew to look there. Question is, has anyone heard of this happen to theirs, or is this just an S type issue alone? Was under the impression the XJ8 was sorted out, to chase parts for the new Jag. Do i need to put it back up in the air pull the belly pan, check to see if all is well, or is it a non issue with our cars? To be fair, never thought the XJ had a linkage issue. Till i saw the S Type would not budge till using the brake. Mileage is just over 60,000 compared to 94,000 on the XJ8's.

Far more S-types were sold compared to X350s over the same period, and both cars used the same gearbox so more fault reports. Of course there are the early S-types that had a different gear box, but by 2003, the two cars were identical.

There have been posts about the X350 cars gearbox cables working loose under the car, right near the gearbox, so it is a fault common to both cars, but more instances in the S-type because of the greater sales per annum. At least this is my take on it.

Looks like the XJ goes back in the air.

Well kids all's well; Checked today, snugged both up a bit, but nothing to speak of, other than easing my mind.
