Default Transmission service for 2005 xj8

I am writing for my husband who is a mechanic but has not worked on Jaguar sealed transmissions.
Want to know if the transmission needs servicing at 100,000 miles.
Does this year/model need an updated pan?
Can he do the job himself?
Can he get detailed instructions?
Since there is no filler neck how does he put fluid in?
What kind and how many quarts of transmission fluid will be needed?
Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi btmclark,

Welcome to the Jaguar Forums!

Jaguar specified that the transmissions on our X350s were "Sealed for Life," but if I can speak for the members of this forum, the general consensus is that the fluid and filter should definitely be changed at some point. Whether that is every 50,000 miles or 100,000 miles is debatable, but moot since you're approaching 100,000 anyway.

The filter is part of the pan, so a new pan/filter assembly is necessary. Some members have had problems with corroded and/or seized pan bolts, so you may need new bolts. The safe (though admittedly expensive) choice for fluid is ZF Lifeguard 6.

Study the threads below and others you may find using the forum Search function, and I think your questions will be answered and your husband will have enough info to determine a course of action:

Note discussions regarding how to ensure you get the correct pan for your transmission, as well as sources for the best prices on the pan/filter and fluid (including some potential alternatives to Lifeguard 6 - but educate yourself fully before deciding).

Perhaps other members will chime in with advice and additional information.

And since we're a friendly bunch here, please visit the https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...-intro-must-5/ and post an introduction to tell us something about you and your husband and your Jag!

Cheers,

Don
