Hi Everyone,
When I bought my jag the gas struts that hold the trunk open were shot. I replaced them with similar struts from Autozone. I just wanted to verify how the trunk should operate. When the trunk is opened, should it spring to an upright open position? When trying to close the trunk, should there be an opposing force trying to keep it open until it catches and draws itself closed?

That's what I was guessing too. I didn't buy the Jaguar replacement ones. They do a good job of holding the trunk in the open position so it doesn't fall and knock me on the head, but it tends to drop hard if I don't hold onto it all the way down.Originally Posted by Six Rotors

Thanks for the response, Eric

On opening, trunk lid should spring up about 3/4", but not much more, (it won't raise to the open position), and on closing a gentle push down will cause the electric lock to engage and secure the lid.
Ok - Fraser. That's what mine does. I have to physically lift it to the all the way open position. To close I usually lift it about an inch and lightly drop it and it catches and pulls itself the rest of the way.
