Default Turn Signal Issue

My 2006 XJ8 has a turn signal cancelling problem: On LEFT turns, the turn signal cancels correctly. However, on RIGHT turns, it only cancels about 10% of the time. When it fails to cancel, I do not hear the characteristic "click" as the wheel is turn to the right, going around the corner.

Can this be anything but a faulty left-hand multifunction switch module? Or could something else in the steering column be faulty?

Sounds to be as if the turn signal stalk needs to be replaced. I have not done so on my Jag, but have done so on other vehicles

Well, I bought another stalk on eBay and finally got around to changing it out. Getting the panel below the column was straightforward, but the upper and lower column shrouds were a PITA. 4 mm screws with phillips heads. Actually, getting them out wasn't too bad, as once they were loosened they fell on the floor.
However, putting them back in was another matter, especially the top shroud. I gave up trying to put the original phillips head screws back in, and got 4 mm cap screws with hex heads at the hardware store. Basically, I needed (at least) 3 hands. One to hold my light, one to hold a mirror, and one to operate a screwdriver or other implement. Or maybe a 3' long flexible neck.
It took me one hour each to put in two of the upper shroud screws. The third one (closest to the driver on the right side) was partly blocked by the wiring harness from the wiper/washer control stalk, and I could not get my 1/2" drive socket extension in past it. So two out of three will have to do.
For the four screws holding the under-column panel, I used 6 mm shoulder bolts instead of the torx head ones originally fitted, as the shoulder bolts stay aligned in the end of a socket. These actually went in fairly straightforwardly.

Oh, and the replacement turn signal stalk seems to have cured the non-cancelling problem. (If it doesn't stay fixed - it will mean swapping out the clock spring I suppose)

Oops, meant 1/4" drive socket extension.
