Well, having holidayed in Germany since 2010, (in the Rheintal area), this year we're off to Berlin. Actually we're staying in a "ferienwohnung" in Potsdam as it's a bit cheaper and also I don't have to drive into Berlin. Big cities make me nervous when driving even though I have driven around Rome many times, (maybe that's why I'm nervous !).

So, we drive over to Hull from Crewe, and then take the overnight ferry to Rotterdam, then there is the 400 miles to Potsdam. We're staying 11 days so hope to see all the sights. When I was young Berlin was a divided city and I still remember seeing President Kennedy on TV saying, at the end of his speech "ich bin ein Berliner".

Seeing the demarcation along the streets where the wall once stood brought tears to my eyes. Very moving

 

I just can't get over that this year The Wall will have been down for as long as it was up.
