Ok figured it out just now.

You hit the MENU button to the side of the screen and then choose USER SETTINGS. There you will see LANGUAGE and there you can make your choice.

I was so dumb to think you could use the MENU icon on the NAV screen!

OK, I found it, Thanks,

I hadn't seen it before because the British English choice was off the screen above the US English choice; I noticed the up-down arrows on the right side of the screen and pushed the up and there it was. Great!

Unfortunately, the Engineering Test Mode does not seem to work on my 2006. Holding the trip button on the stalk down while turning the ignition from 0 to II and waiting for the ETM message to come on, it does not appear. After 10 seconds the check engine light goes from solid to flashing, but that is all that happens, and releasing the trip button then does not go into Engineering test Mode. The proceedure does not say you need to start the engine, just turn the ignition to position II.

I have done this before, based on info in this forum, however I sure as heck cannot remember how I did it and I cannot find the info posted somewhere in this forum! It was a simple process that I do remember.

I really like my XJ, I have 110,000 miles on it now. If I had the opportunity to make design changes I'd:

1) Have a pushbutton on the console instead of the nav screen for keeping "daylight" mode on for rainy days when the lights go on automatically (easy access instead of fussing around with the menu/settings/etc).
2) A better phone interface that works with iphones or an easy upgrade path
3) More options on the ride/trans/engine instead of just "regular" and "sport". The S Mercedes, for example, has several settings including 'economy'
4) Ceramic "no-dust" brakes (got them on a pad change) to minimize the need for cleaning the aluminum wheels.
5) Larger Navscreen 9" or even 10" or 11"

The height the trunk opened to always drove me nuts, hit my head on it all the time loading and emptying the trunk. I put new lift supports on since they were getting a bit weak in the cold weather using the measurements on using the online listed extension and compression measurements and now the trunk opens far enough for my liking. The length of the previous supports were the limiting factor, though the ones on the car had Jaguar logos. Either the extension length rating I got was actually wrong, or someone had them replaced previously at the dealer and used the wrong ones. Either way the new ones are perfect and the pair cost me $29 at Pepboys and now I'm extremely happy with the trunk's new open angle. I bought Stabilus Lift-O-Mat SG359019s. The Jaguar ones also had Lift-O-Mat markings, but are $100+ a piece at the dealer.

I love this car.. but... what I don't like or would change:

1. No heated seats??? Pretty sure this technology was available in 2005 for a luxury brand.
2. Headliner flimsy, starting to hang in spots
3. useless cupholders
4. no aux or USB input for audio. really??? See #1.
5. nav system is a bit goofy, but i can live with it.
6. unintended low-rider mode when outdoor temps are cold.

That's about it really, pretty minor in the scheme of things - #2 and #6 can and will be fixed (but a bummer to have to). #1 i could add if i want, the rest I forget whenever I see the black cat's reflection on a glass building :-D

LOL - glad I bought a 2004. In 2004, heated seats and steering wheel were standard.

My 05 XJ8L has heated seats, still good headliner.
The lack of aux input is annoying, even my 06 Prius has it (AND Bluetooth). I will probably install a BT kit next year per one of the forum members ($400 parts & labor)

Cheers,
Wolfy

That's the only thing I don't like. I would love to be able to connect my ipod, but oh well...

Darn it. Somebody must've stripped my 04 of those features before I bought it.

Default Options

I have heated seats and wheel. Bluetooth is available for $300. Air shock issue is easy to fix if it leaks too much.

Headliner glue was the issue. Got it fixed for $250. Totally new headliner.

Cup holder fits most fast food large drinks. Not so bad. Also works with a Jaguar travel mug!

Next?

yup, as i said, those issues can and will be fixed. aware that all the other items can be added, just kinda funny that they'd be options, albeit ones that i can live without.

next?

I apologize for the late reply. I have not been monitoring my forum posts regularly.
The plastic chrome bits in my 2008 XJ8 VDP include the press buttons on the rear picnic tray tables. The "chrome" is peeling off from use. See picture.
I can see that base is some sort of plastic which is veneered with a chrome-

look material that is not holding up and actually can cut your finger when opening the tray table. All four ash tray press buttons and surrounds are also some plastic material with "chrome" subject to wear like the rear tray table press buttons.

Picture of rear door ashtray and surround. The door handle is metallic base and is holding up fine.

That's a shame.
You can tidy it up with a sharp knife
and you can buy a "chrome" spray can or just silver paint which
will be a marginal improvement.

One thing that I don't like about my 2005 Jaguar XJ8L is that for all intents and purposes, the rear parking sensors are not serviceable. If one of those parking sensors should fail, one will just have to unplug the cable to them, and simply do without that option.

I opted to unplug the cable from the module, and reboot the computer.

The only thing I really don't like is that I waited until I was 68 to buy one !!

Don't like the motorized glove box door that only catches on one side.
