What now? - New problem with fuel gauge
So my fuel gauge is acting weird. A couple of times it has taken a day or two after a fill-up to get back to reading full. If I drive continuously, it will take 1+ hours to go from what it was when I filled it up to reading full... Kind of neat to see the gauge inching up as you drive along, but not really useful. Once it has stablized it tends to read right and the distance to empty seem right. Probably related is a couple of times the gauge has dropped from some normal reading to empty, the car has made the emergency noise, the driver information display reads "Fill up now" and the nav starts to show all the dino-juicers along the route. Stopping and re-starting has cured the fault up 'till now.
No codes are associated with these two problems. Is it likely to be the sender and/or a loose wire or ??
Thoughts?
Thanks

Thanks, I missed this. I have the car booked into the dealer on Thursday this week, and the service writer seemed to think this was a common problem. They plan on replacing both senders and the pump. It should be covered by the extended warranty, I called them earlier and they said it should be, but for the Jag dealer to call them for a claims # when they have a price. From the other threads it looks like a $1300 or so job.... I'll update when I have it (hopefully) fixed....
Thanks

Thursday was an expensive day.... but not for me! Thank god I took out the CarMax Total Care warranty when I bought the car. In the 18 months I have had the car, I have had the transmission fixed ($624 TSB for rough shift and squeaking) and now the fuel gauge problem. Mike, the service writer at the Dealer, said Carmax were very easy and professional to deal with, they paid via a credit card right there and then for the full amount less my $75 deductible. Total paid by CarMax was $952 (I think they cut a rate with the dealer). They replaced one sender and one sender/pump (there are 2 senders and one of them has a pump attached) and 3 hours of labor. Fuel gauge now appears to be working....
I also had a front end brake job done (pads only, the rotors were fine).
As a freebie they fixed both my rear light chrome surrounds. They used a 2-part black epoxy glue and did a very good job, they removed both lights to work on them. You really can't tell that any work was done, the glue bead is very even and now the surround is not flapping around!
I have to say Maund Jaguar in Austin are the reason I keep on buying Jaguars, they are reasonably priced ($117 PH labor), very knowledgeable and professional and have a great team of mechanics.
