Question What is this on the side of the Air Filter Box?

Just changed the Air Filter on my 2006 XJ8L and noticed an attachment on the side of the Air Filter plastic housing (box).
See pic 1 the attachment is ringed in red. Pic 2 Close up of attachment.
On inspection it would seem that an electrical connection could/should go into the back of this attachment- but I do not see any wires anywhere that could plug into it. The back of the attachment is ringed in red in pic 3.

Does any body know what it is? And/or what function it performs

BTW all functions on the car work and no codes show

It is the "extra air flap actuator electrical connector"

Default Thanks for the information.

However the box housing the air filter does not have an extra air flap, nor is there an electrical wire to plug into the actuator.

Are there some X350 models that do have the "extra air" feature and some that do not? Do all air filter boxes have the plug for the actuator whether or not extra air is fitted?

My car is a normally asperated XJ8 L, and it does not seem to have "extra air"

Thanks

That’s amazing. That is my exact question. So it seems I should not worry about the random unplugged connector. So what models use that connection and what benefit does it provide?
thanks

Well, I can't tell you what it is, because my 2007 doesn't have that... I think it's in the XJRs, opens for airflow at full throttle.

As my Super V8 has the flap, I would surmise that the supercharged models have it, at least in the X350 version.

Here's some pictures I have taken today...

Best regards,

Thomas
