Default wider tires on 19" wheels - better ride?

My 2008 x358 vdp came with stock 19" rims. I have read the ride quality ( comfort and quiet aspect) is diminished due to the larger rim. Which results in less tire for cushion.

I recently drove a 2004 which had the 17 rims and i do feel the ride was better.
with that said, my tires on the 19" vdp are SHOT.

would putting a wider only tire on the 19" rim increase ride comfort due to the increased surface area on road ? or possibly the opposite?

has anyone done w aider tire than stock on a 19" rim? results?

To get a softer ride with 19" wheels, you would have to reduce your tire pressure. Another option would be to get a set of 15" Jaguar wheels and tires from a 98 - 03 version. That's what I would do.

15" wheels won't fit over the brake calipers; the smallest is 17" ... or 18" if you have an XJR (ie Brembo brakes).

I have a 2004 XJR with 20 inch wheels. I have a spare which is a stock 18 inch wheel. You can purchase a set of stock 18 inch wheels which will fit over the brakes and will cost about $100 each, plus the cost of the tires, which you had to purchase anyway!

Nice reference site is tirerack.com just to do research on wheel and tire combos. Some real ugly wheels but others that have appeal. Can do an "on car" comparison. Just toyed with this using 18" rim/tire package, (Model 77 and Goodyear Eagles) pre-mounted and balanced came in around $1300 + shipping. One distribution point is in Delaware. Have used them for tires only on (3) vehicles. 2 day shipping to Northern Virginia. Very pleased with tires and customer service. Worth a look and you can spend some down time doing "what ifs".

I have stock 19's on mine and THE first thing I noticed was the ride comfort and road noise. They LOOK friggin awesome though. The stance IS beautiful but if I could find a set at 18" with more rubber and the same style wheel I'd do it in a heart beat.

I may be in the market for an upgrade to an XJR or Super V8 in the future if I can find one with low miles in the right color. If it has 19's on it... I'll keep looking and walk away.

Personally speaking, look great or not, I wouldn't have them again.

XJRs come with 19 inch wheels standard and 20 inch as an upgrade. Now I also want to share that I had to straighten 3 wheels this winter. Poor roads clearly do damage to 20 inch wheels. The ride is much better now
