My 2006 XJ Super 8 windshield washer pump comes on and makes noise, but no water comes out to spray on windshield. I looked under the hood and it looks like the motor/pump must be in the drivers side wheel-well. I looked around here and YouTube and didn’t find any videos on changing this part. I was thinking before I take the wheel off and tackle this issue, I have the new motor/pump in hand. I know it may be just a clog somewhere, but...???

 

Just found this on the forum about how to unclog and fix the wiper washer system that had the same symptoms as I have with my XJ. I’m going to try what he says tomorrow, before diving into the wheel-well.

If you need to replace the washer pump, you might be able to access it by simply removing the long horizontal splash guard in the front of the vehicle that transverses from the left to the right side of the vehicle. This is the same guard where the front part of the oil/oil filter splash guard attaches to (via three bolts). At that point, the underside of the washer fluid reservoir will be readily exposed. This is what I did a few years ago to repair a broken float switch in that reservoir.

 

I had to have the reservoir on my last X350 cleaned out, it was all gunged up, that sorted the problem

 

My hoses in the wiper arm itself at the base were pinched in the spring.

 

I just blow out the main line that leads to the wipers for now and everything works, but I know that reservoir may have to be cleaned out in the near future.
