X350 4.2 N/A Zero engine compression on 1 bank.
hi. after replacing the headgasket on my XJ X350 4.2 N/A 298HP 2004 , I do not have compression on one side. it's about 2bar. (29psi). I did not put the VVT in the fully retarded position. Could this be the reason for the lack of compression? timing correctly set (6 o'clock crankshaft, camshafts locked in flat places, flywheel locked).

could you say more? I don't speak English every day and I don't know how to interpret it exactly.
from what I know the hole in the flywheel is after 45 ° TDC. I have a hole there where the tool fits only in one place and i set with this tool and also blocked camshafts in flat Places.

Ram,
Welcome to the Jag forum.
Where are you located? What is yr, model, etc of your car?
Have you read through the forum stickies and found the X350 shop manual?
Its good to consider the fundamentals here:
- If you have reassembled the cam timing system (chains, etc) and have compression on one bank only, then at least that cam is (way) out of phase
- This assumes the cyl head is sound; valve lash correct, etc. Make sure the valve seats have not dropped, a common overheat issue
- Turn the engine through the firing order (720 degrees). You should find that split overlap on each cyl occurs at TDC for that cyl
Go look in the '07 - ''14 XK forum, and search for an '07 XK cylinder head replace thread. There is a beautifully illustrated, step by step tutorial. Review chain/tensioner installation
Hope this helps...
