The left side xenon light on my 2005 XJ8 is out. I swapped bulbs and it is not the bulb as neither bulb works in the left position. I also checked the fuse box and eache light is on a seperate fuse - no problem there either. It takes the D1s bulb - can I assume that the ballast is out - or is there possible a less expense cause?

 

I am having the same issue with my factory intaalled x-type.
new bulb lasted 3 min and then went out..
Igniter, ballast ?
I'm at a loss.
Any resolution for you?

useally the ballast, not avail seperatly. But I have 1 for $150 shipped... unless youre not in the Upper 48 states you dont list location

 

Hie, I've the same problem on my XK8 2003.
One lamp is out (D1S), but swapping it works, I've still made no other tests, did anyone solved ? I'ld like to try an universal ebay's ballast...

If I understand correctly, another bulb works, but the original bulb does not work. If that is the case, it sounds like you have a bad HID, not the ballast.

If so, I found a good aftermarket supplier of D1S bulbs on Ebay. At least for the price ($60/pair) they're far less expensive than OEM D1Ss. I have them in my X350 for a couple of month now and I am happy with their performance. I tried the 8000K which are a little ice blue, but nice and bright. The Ebay company is Formula-J87 (no affiliation).

Try searching for them on Ebay and hopefully you can purchase them in Italy if you discover, in fact, that the bulb is expired.

but I explained wrong.
If I use the left lamp on the left side, that does NOT wors, BUT if I use the left lamp on the right side, that WORKS!

 

OK, Yes, with that clarification it does sound like you too have a defective ballast.
