Default Xj hypermiling?!?

2006 XJ8, suddenly looking at an impromptu ~800mi trip. Most I've driven so far is 100mi round trip.

Anyone have any hypermiling tips, efficient speed settings, etc, with this car?

Also, sleeping in the car may be a possibility...anyone have experience with that?

Thanks!

Best things you can do to hypermile in any car is:
- remove any extra or unnecessary weight
- slow down 10 mph or whatever is safe
- draft bigger vehicles (RV's, semis) but at a safe distance
- turn down AC usage if possible
- keep windows closed (aerodynamics)

Oh did I mention slow down? That's the biggie.

What's your current mileage? Long trip mileage is usually the best. Even if your crossing mountains one way, you'll be going downhill the other way. Staying at the legal speed limit (which is usually 10-20 mph what the faster flow of traffic is) will do wonders. Hey, you're on vacation, driving a Jaguar, don't fret over mpgs.

Rolling resistance is a big factor. Suggested that you use 35psi in tires. Wax exterior. Insure radiator and engine covers underneath are properly attached. If you can find premium without 10% ethanol, use it. (ethanol reduces MPG) I get 32~33mpg at 70mph regularly.

Huge mileage difference at 70mph than 75mph. Also use cruise control, it's programmed to give you the best mileage.
For the very minute difference, wax your car, it's an old drag racing myth.
Use a good gas I personally saw a huge a difference in using chevron than with 7-11 gas on a 5 hour road trip.
Best of luck post your results!

I completed a full 3900 mile roundtrip from Dallas to Martha Vineyard and back and set the cruise to 70 mph or 1800RPM . No A/C where possible and kept windows closed ans unroof open to allow some air flow.

Iwas getting 660 miles on a full tank. It was 95% Highway though.
Slept in MArriotts every night. Sleeping in tht car is a big no no for me (at my humble 52 years!).

The probability of saving enough gas to make it worthwhile is pretty low. Most likely less than 2 gallons total.

The true hypermilers do it as a challenge, not really to save money.
