Being gas prices are so high, I was wondering if there is a real world difference in HWY mpg between the xj8 and xjr? The gov says 25mpg for the xj8 and 22mpg for the xjr. not sure why it would be less, but if it truely is in the real world that might push me into XJ8, since 80% of my driving is highway. I know 3mpg diff is not a whole lot but it will cost more to buy a XJR too. Anyone have any comments on what they see in terms of MPG between the 2 models?

I bought a VDP for the extra length, smoother ride and the interior perks.
The extra benefits I realized were better fuel mileage (consistently 27mpg for me), lower maintenance costs and common wear parts (brakes, etc.) are easier/cheaper to find.
Styling wise, a VDP with the right wheels looks the same as the R model to me, just a little longer.
The only benefit I saw of the R model was that "press you against the seat acceleration" it has.

I don't get it. I bought an infiniti with 120k on it about 8 years ago and drove it to 240k with no problems. A high quality automobile will allow this. I thought these Jags are high quality. if so why is it so important to avoid after 100k. This 2004 i am looking at has a $4k deduct for the 110k miles. wow that is a lot. So the depreciation on these things really accellerate once you go beyond 80k for a 2004 model. This is consistent with what people are saying about the post 100k "stay away" syndrome. I am sorry, but I expect a vehicle to last well beyond 100k (if properly maintained) and if Jags don't do this then this is probably not the car for me. American cars are in this category of not lasting past 100k. High mileage Jag owners, please jump in and let me hear your experiences.

Hi from my own experience with my cars they will do mega miles although will need some repair work , my current car has 120k on the clock, the previous Jaguars I have owned have been part exchanged/sold with mileages from 14000 to 18000, .
Certain things will need relacing such as discs, shock absorbers, suspension wishbones, etc, one of mine needed a gearbox but that was unusual, I would not be put off by the mileage, my 1994 X300 was 3 years old when I got it, one company owner, full history and 130k on the clock !!
At the time I paid maybe 40% the price of a similar car with 30k on the clock.
