1985 XJ6 sov. left side doors wont lock and cant be locked by the in side lever. I am trying to get the front door trim off but cant see how to remove the armrest. one screw at the front of armrest i removed, took the light cover off but the screws in there dont get it off. can anyone please tell me

 

You're in the wrong forum but I can help. The arm rest is in two pieces separated by the piping. First look underneath the armrest and you should see another screw. Remove it. It is holding the top piece in place.

Next, you have to remove the top half of the armrest. It slides toward the back or the door. "slides" is a relative term. You will probably need to smack it with the heel of your hand pretty hard. Those to parts are a tight fit and years of leather squished together sort of bonds them together.

Once it's slid back, it will lift off two studs it's sitting on. It helps to know that the piping it part of the top half of the arm rest. Once you remove the screw from the bottm you can gently use a butter knife and slide it along/between the two pieces. Don't pry them apart, just slide the knife along.

You will then see two more screws exposed that screw to the door.

That should do it.
