Question Xj8 2004 - looks like ‘duct tape patches’ on rear door jambs, factory?!

Hi all:
LONG story short…

🤷🏻I sorta bought (still owe $3k to seller) an out of state Xj8 2004 on Hemmings ($10,310, base, 56k, good shape, $10,000 in repairs (replace all air suspension struts, serp. belt, trans. Leak fix, fluid change, coolant reservoir, front pads, tie rods, washer trans. motor, more… $3k in upgrades camera, Sony stereo, Bluetooth, ApplePlay…) in last 16 months. Maintenance receipts & no seemingly major defects is why I bought it. Car delivered the other night. Seller sold due to health problems (neck… hmmmm?) making it hard to get in/out of car. Besides a few other issues seller did not disclose, there looks like ‘duct tape patches’ on rear door jambs (opening door, on the left, up a bit, below chrome piece that I suspect may channel water?).
Does any one know if this from the factory? Imo, seems doubtful. Seller says ‘I know nothing about those patches. Must be from the factory.’ He inferred he’s never seen this. I find that hard to believe, as you can open a rear door & they stand out. And, as one is opening rear door, you can see headliner bubble, sag. I guess he thought I wouldn’t notice. He touted car in ad & on phone “PERFECT FRONT TO BACK.” & other misleading issues. Like no factory mats, cheap rust brown mats in front under weathertech knockoffs, no mats, fake weathertech in rear. The cheap plastic floor trays stands out like someone wearing timberlines with a tuxedo. Guess his “high standards” don’t account for taste, nor being forthright. 45 photos, NONE of headliner, door jambs.
Seeing that seller did NOT disclose a few things (this is 1 of them), I can’t take his word.
If from factory, I’d expect other material to be used, then painted car’s color (green).
(gee, photos are huge!?)
thanks!
Cino

P.S.: seller/Hemmings listed in ad “REPLACEMENT OF HEADLINER IS SAID TO HAVE BEEN DONE.” I get the car & headliner is sagging in the rear. So disappointed. I took (I thought) care in not dealing with a headliner repair, a notorious problem in jags xj6/xj8. Repair is @ 2yrs. old from prior owner. Seller feigns surprise. 🥴💸

Rear passenger door jamb Duct tape? Factory? What’s it covering up?

Rear Drivers side door jamb Duct tape? Factory? What’s it covering up?

Hi Cino61
Those patches are a standard part of the car. Yours look a bit untidy, but they aren't a trick by the seller to cover anything up.
The parts can be viewed here:

That's factory. There is a TSB to get some clear RTV behind them to eliminate water ingress into the cabin.

The more I think on it, I can’t believe the look of those ‘patches’. Can’t believe I never came across them in person or via photos. If I saw beforehand I don’t think I’d buy the car. Thnx again for the reply.
