I've just 'discovered' that the steering wheel which locks up in the top rest position can be kept in the ready/normal by putting the selector in manual mode, which has two positions: pedals, steering wheel. This is a blessing because my wife uses the car as a 'beach bugger,' and now the wheel stays normal range. Temp. fix while other repairs are made. Converted (Arnott), rebuilt intake, upper hoses, therm housing. Girls at the beach like the car as well! Nothing like an XJ8. Radio/CD plays well.

 

Not only that, you will save a lot of wear and tear on the motors for the seat, steering column, and pedals. I find it a bit ridiculous that one needs those things to move aside, unless you are a really large person. When I need help getting in and out, I should probably switch riding in back vs. driving, LOL.

Are you aware that the steering wheel also moves in and out? If it were me, I would set one of the 3 memory settings for the wife. That way she can have her own setting positions by pressing her assigned memory button.

 

Thank you for the suggestion, but I've discussed this with her, and to paraphrase a song, she:s got a ticket to ride, and she don't care! Car is not pristine, no collisions, but a minor money pit. Different enough to hold on to. Fine stereo.
