Angry 1996 jaguar vanden plas. Smoke

1996 JAGUAR VANDEN PLAS is smoking out the tail pipe. The car sat for about 1.5 years. I drained all the old gas put new gas in new + oil and it still is smoking like crazy. It did have a misfire on cylinder 2 and was dumping raw fuel into the catalytic converter because I had the check engine light flashing. Finally replaced the fuel injector and fixed the misfire. But still has the smoking issue. The weird thing is that this smoke is not your typical blue or white steamy smoke. it last a long time doesn't look blue, and does not smell sweet like coolant. Any ideas what it can be and how to fix???? The car runs amazing, the throttle response is good, and power is also good.

Are you sure you got *all* the old fuel out?

The gas sold in my neck o' the woods will result in a turpentine-ish exhaust odor if it goes badly stale....and make lots of smoke

How much running time do you have? Perhaps residue in the converters, pipes, and mufflers is till burning off?

Cheers
DD

That's what I was thinking residue in the converters and I barely ran it because it was smoking like crazy and I live near the main road, but I finally ran it longer and the smoke stopped. Thanks for the support. THAT WAS EASY!

Hi mdelga22,

I have moved your thread from the forum for the X350 to the forum for the X300, which is the Jaguar factory project code for your 1996 VDP.

When a member like Doug gives you such a helpful reply, it is appropriate to click the Thanks button on his post, as I did.

Also, please visit the New Member Area - Intro a MUST and post a required introduction so we can learn something about you and your Jaguar and give you a proper welcome.

AHHHHHH and people say that ethanol gas is good!
Well its the gas and probqably destroyed the internals in the tank AKA vent tubes and all the rest.
Run the car for 5 minutes if it keeps it up you sure its not a head gasket?
