1997 XJ6 problem with lights in trunk
The luggage compartment lights in my 97 XJ6 come on when the trunk is opened up, but go off once the trunk lid gets about half way up. Shouldn't they stay on when the trunk is open all the way? What's the fix?
you will most probably find a broken wire in the loom of cables which is inside the plastic piping attached to the right hand boot hinge. Detach the cable ties a to loosen the tension on the cables and wriggle them. Chances are you'll find the light going on and off.Isolate the broken cable and rejoin it.
Thanks, Jagqueen. Your analysis was spot-on. I wiggled the wires, and was able to make the lights go on and off. Just need to isolate and repair the broken one. I'll report back when complete. Thanks, again.

just had to do that with mine. 4 wires broken, tag lights & boot lights were disabled.
anyone know of an economical/relatively easy (nothing is easy) fix for the entire harness?
all the wires in there were brittle and looked ready to break in half.
I shaved off some of the plastic sleeve to give the harness a little extra breathing room also.
my method of cutting/replacing sections has given me good results, but I really don't feel like cutting/soldering/splicing the entire trunk harness.
thanks
