I've got a 1995 XJR, 80k. I did a complete service last year when I bought it. All fluids apart from the supercharger. New supercharger belt and loads of other wee things like A pillar bushes, discs and tyres.

So I am about to set off across Europe on a 3000 mile trip. What would you service, check replace????


The rad mounts are a bit perished but seem ok, I suppose.

I have an on going problem with wheel nuts spinning on studs that i will obviously need to sort before heading off. Some **** has obviously crossed the thread or hit it far too hard with an air wrench. Does anyone know if my studs are pressed or threaded?

If I had to do a 3,000 mile trip, I'd rent a brand new car than take my XJR ... but if I absolutely had to take the XJR, I'd have my independent mechanic do a complete overview. In addition, I'd change the differential fluid, check all belts, all coolant hoses for any sign of wear or fatigue. Ball joints, tierods, wheel bearings, brake pads, discs, grease the rear half shafts, check the coils for hairline cracks, update the chain tensioner if it has got the old style ... this is not a comprehensive list as I am sure there's more stuff, but to start off, that's the list that I'd ask my independent mechanic to check/complete.
