96 XJ6 No Crank, headlights, signals etc...
Hi eveyone,
I recently be the owner of a 1996 XJ6 Black on Black with about 107K miles on the clock. The car is in relatively nice shape just needs some paint work on the top areas.
There is one major issue that I am in need of some troubleshooting help with. The car will not crank over when the key is turned. I am able to manually operate the starter relay with the key on and get the engine started. Bypassing the shifter lockout allows me to shift the car into drive and drive the car, but the headlights don't work nor does the directionals. There is an issue with the car idling high but I think that is due to the adaptations being lost due to a dead battery. I have an appointment with the local Jaguar dealer to have that looked at.
Having over 20 years experience as a mechanic I am not terribly comfortable with having others work on my cars and I do almost all work on my cars myself. Most of my experience is with Mercedes and BMWs as this is my first Jag. I have a feeling that this is a simple and common issues and that is why I am asking here first before shelling out $150hr diagnositic time at the steeler.
Please forgive me if there is a thread on this already as I searched but could not locate one.
Thanks in advance to any help you can provide me.

I got home last night and put the bettery charger on the car as I have an appointment at the dealer tomorrow. After about 1/2 and hour the alarm sounded, so I went outside and unlocked the car with the key and it chirped. I thought that was odd since it hadn't done that when I brought her home. I decided to try the key in the ignition and the car proceded to crank over. I had to let the battery charge another hour or so, but I am able to start the car and all the accessories appear to work.
