Hi,
had my XJR recently MOT'd and came back with couple of adviseries.
Namely he picked up on that both rear driveshaft u/joints had slight play in them.
When asked if this was a big job the sharp intake of air suggested that it was a major catastrophe ! He said that once jacked up the wheels could be moved in and out slightly, drivers side more so.

Took carto my usual mechanic who I trust 100% and he inspectedthe car saying that the u/j were fine, but agreed that you could move the shafts independently in and out of the diff a little.
He is going to seek some advice on this as to the cause, he does not think it is a major issue, no noise is evident from the diff to our knowledge.

Anybody have any ideas on this to help ?

 

A "litttle"....like .250" ? Or a "little".... like .025" ?

Some movement is normal but I don't know the exact spec. I'll try to find it tonight.

I think from what they said it is more like .250
Have not had any more feedback from the mechanic as of yet.
I suppose if it was a major problem no MOTwould have been given, theprevious test was carried out 1000 miles earlier by supplying dealer and this was not picked up.
