my 96 xjr just suddenly wont let me lock the doors, the key fob is broken, has been since i got it...but out of the blue it wont lock...i'm wondering what could cause this...there are some scratches around my lock like someone may have tried to break in it...but the key still turns to the right ...just not the left...any ideas of how to fix this?

 

The lock cylinder itself may have been damaged if someone tried to break in. A locksmith could probably fix it. Worth a try. To remove the lock cylinder you'll have to remoe the door trim panel. There's a write-up for that somewhere in the archives.

Or the *linkage* that attaches to the lock cylinder might be damaged....somehow. A visual inspection with the door trim panel removed is in order.

okay so i took the door panel off, and where the cable from the inside handle had broken...forever ago...there was plastic in the actuator...i feel that if i can get the actuator out of the car, i could remove whatever is blocking it...it will lock but rarely and when it does it immediately unlocks itself...looked for a write up on here of how to get the actuator out of the car (96 xjr) cannot find it still....any help would be appreciated..thank you Doug for the response...i am new here and navigations is messy at best for me!!
