97 VDP engine misfire violent shaking, gas smell, CEL flashing with 0300/0302/1313
My 97 VDP engine light was on (not flashing) a week ago with engine shaking. A mechanic said there was oil in the plugs, changed all the six spark plugs. This temporarily solved the problem. Sometimes the engine would "hiccup" when the car stopped, but when the car was running the "hiccup" went away. I was very busy with my jag last week and I ignored it.
And this week... my jag started shaking again, this time more violently with gas smell coming out in my garage. The CEL is at first on, then flashing. OBDII code reader said P0300,P0302 and P1313, which seems that cylinder #2 is misfiring and bank 1 catalyst damaged(P1313 on my reader said "Manufacturer control")...
What should I do now? I decided to repair her on my own because the mechanics will cause me an arm and a leg to fix it...

Pull he spark plugs again. If they're drenched in oil again it's time to replace the cam cover gasket and the spark plug tube seals.
Another strong possibility is a coil or coils failing. Quite common. Test by substitution is the usual method. Get a new one (the made in Japan type) and try it on cylinder 2and see what happens

To further Doug's statement to replace the seals, check the cam cover itself for anomalies. I had to buy a new cover because the #2 plug well had a "crack" (for lack of a better term) at its base. We assume this crack was caused by a bad coil that was arcing to the cover.
