Nope, not lemon hopefully
Well, basically it should be something related to the idle sensor .Do you have any fluctations to the RPM ? I had some fluctations on my XJ40 and occasionally stalled . I had it serviced by Jag Specialist and the problem turned out to be a dirty idle sensor or some throttle body part . They cleaned it all and put it back .And voila

I'm with Caddi. I would try the idle control valve. Alternator can be tested in the car at any Autozone. I would start there and rule that out first. Does the alternator light come on before you die or after?

You're welcome and happy with ken's corrections
It's up to you , the part I had it cleaned wasan expensive oneand I don't think official Jag dealers would bother to clean it off . They just replace it

$600 ????? WTF? No way man. I can get it remanufactured for like 50 bucks, plus shipping. The downside is the downtime which is basically shipping. BTW, my response is posted in the other forum. Find out what the price of the alternator is and let us know, because $600 sounds rediculous.

Battery light: ok. Take and have the battery load tested. If the battery is having problems it will shut the car down. The alternator may be doing fine, but if the battery is weak the computer will freak out. The computers require a constant voltage stream and the alternator is too irregular to power them. A bad battery maybe the only problem. I hope it's that cheap and easy!

Had a stalling-at-idle problem with my 1996 XJ6 at about 85,000 miles. A new EGR valve (new-in-box, $30, ebay) fixed it. If I hadn't found a new one so inexpensively I probably would have tried taking the old one off and cleaning it before giving the Jag dealer big bucks for one of his new ones.
