Default 97xj6 vp lifespan

I bought a 97 xj6 vanden plas with 137k miles over the weekend. It looks like I need to change out the TCM and the oxygen sensors because the lights are on, but then again maybe the cat.

The ignition switch, spark plugs wiper, lights, oil was just replaced and the catalytic converter and fuel injectors were repaired around 116k miles. I do not plan to fix the sunroof or paint. The car shifts smooth and handles both the local streets and freeways well. The suspension is solid as well.

How long do you think this car could last and what potential problems could I be expecting in the future? Is this something I would be able to keep for around 10 years without facing any major repairs or would it be more of something to drive around for two years then resell?

X300 Jags appear to last 250-300K and more if maintained in a rust free environment. The electronics will occasionally need repair/replacement, as will suspension and some engine related parts like coils, plugs alternators, starters, even chains and tensioners.
But you can't ignore warning lights.

There is no definitive answer to the question of how long the car is likely to last. You will find threads in the forum regarding X300 common issues that are worth keeping an eye on. Many items are no different to what any older car with high mileage would need. These URL's may help you to start with:

X300's are generally pretty robust and IMO the items requiring attention now and in the future will largely depend on how well the car has been maintained in the past, and the amount of mileage you will stack up over the next 10 years. More miles just means more servicing and routine inspections. These engines need regular oil/filter changes, and although there are varied opinions as to the frequency, for me it's at least 6 monthly or 5,000 miles whichever comes first.

You already have some maintenance history it seems, so that's a good start. Enjoy your new X300!

My first x300 was a 95 xj6 which had 353,796km on it when I sold it, and it ran great. I have a pictures of it here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...-previous-918/
