ABS earth strap?

ABS earth strap?
There seem to be two braided metal cables sheathed in black plastic running to my front brakes. Or, there would be, except they've both broken off near the nut at the top.
Does anyone know what they're for and if they're important? I do sometimes get an ABS light on but a restart will clear it.

My guess would be something to do with the ABS sensing, as we dont have pad wear sensors on the X300.
They MUST be connected, so do the best you can, or simply make 2 new ones using standard wire and ensuring they dont tangle in the wizzy bits.
