Default ABS in Hub?!! Any Help Appreciated!

Hi there,

I'm looking for some help!
The car is a UK 1995 X300 XJR (Manual)

I had the abs/trac control lights come on when hitting about 20mph, so I decided to check and clean the abs sensors.
To cut a long story short, the front drivers side sensor broke off and when trying to remove it, it dropped down in to the hub. It was getting dark so I had to leave it at that.
Can I remove the hub to get at the sensor, or is the hub a sealed unit and the sensor now stuck in there forever?!

Oh, and does anyone know where I can get the 8mm bolt that connects the abs sensor to the wheel, mine was badly rusted, I've looked online but so far no luck.

Any help is really appreciated, thanks.

Dale

Yes it's simple to remove the hub. Search for posts for changing the front wheel bearings and that will give you the procedure you need.

The screw that holds the ABS sensor is just a standard metric thread - probably M6 but check. Just get any stainless screw for it. No need for anything special.

Something like this would do.

Dale,

This is more information than you need, but the photos at the links below will show you how the hub comes apart. Depending on how much disassembly you have to do to access the broken ABS sensor, it may be a good idea to have some high quality wheel bearing grease on hand so you can repack the bearings with grease. I show how in the photo captions.

Thanks Brendan and Don!
That's just the information I was looking for, and the links you both provided are a massive help.

The next time I can work on the car is Saturday, I didn't want to get to Saturday, and find I had to order a new hub, then wait until the following Saturday to start all over again, I'm missing my car!

On the plus side, I am borrowing my fathers XK8 whilst my car is off the road. It's a great car, and has even got me looking at some xkr classifieds, but after owning my xjr for around 13 years its a keeper now, and I couldn't justify 2 jags, well not to my wife anyway.

Thanks again for your help.
