Default Advice needed re Car diagnostics gizmo.

Hi guys,
My car is a 1995 Jaguar XJ6 3.2 auto.
Using just that information, can anybody tell me if there is a socket under the dash to accept a plug from an eBay item such as eBay item #180774383448?
Failing that, and taking my bad back into account, can anybody tell me exactly where to look to try and find the socket?
Ta very much,
Steve

Hi Stevie,

The location of the plug in my 96 VDP is just to the right of the gas pedal. I dont believe it's tucked up under any carpeting. If you just lay down under the dash you should see it.

If your Jag is a proper British one then it may be to the left of the Brake pedal.

Cheers,

Mike

More or less directly above your left knee as you sit in the driver's seat Stevie.
The ELM 327 interface which you've suggested has mixed reviews IIRC. Decent enough but the software has been reported as difficult to use. It's more than a code reader as it should monitor different sensors - that is what you want. I think I read reviews of it on Amazon. You need a laptop to run it from the car. I'd get it if I were you because at that price it's a chance worth taking. You can always get back to us for further advice.

OK, I took the plunge and bought eBay item #120764303995.
I'll know in a few days if it works on my Jag or not.
Thanks all.

Just a quick update.
The gizmo arrived and the software is dire. The good news is that I got in contact with other buyers and they told me how to get the real McCoy software.
Not tried it on the Jag yet.

That's good news Stevie, just out of interest which Real McCoy did you get?

FTDI Installation Guides

Virtual COM Port Drivers

That last one is for the Setup.exe files found at the right hand end of the Windows section below the red text.
But I may have slightly misled you. It is the software that comes with this gizmo that is dire and that is down to the seller, not the makers of the gizmo.
For instance, the software CD from the seller explains in great detail how to pair this ELM 327 with your laptop via Bluetooth. (that's the ONLY connection method that he explains) ....... but it ain't a Bluetooth enabled gizmo.
