Default air conditioning

when i bought my 96 vdp last august, the a.c. was blowing cold. Then i noticed toward the end of the summer it started blowing less cool. Now since the winter is over , when i turn on the a.c, the compressor won't come on. I figure it has a leak somewhere. I know compressors won't come on if the freon is too low. when i refill the freon, will the compressor start back working? Which port do you add the freon{i know its the low pressure side] but which port is this physically?Do you use the old type freon? thanks for the help!!!

The first problem that you run across is that a lot of the R-12 systems were converted to handle R-134. If it hasn't been converted then I had great results with Freeze-12 which is a subsitute for R-12. I don't know if you need an AC license to buy the stuff there.

There are two hoses from the compressor. One goes to the condensor, which is a "radiator" up by the coolant radiator. The hose coming from the condensor is still on the high side. This is the high pressure side. The other comes from the evaporator which is inside the car or a housing on the firewall. This is the low/suction side. After clearing any air in your refill hose, you feed gas (can rightside up) to the suction side of the system.

That won't fix the leak and if an AC system isn't run enough, the shaft seals on the compressor can go bad. Better to give it a weekly run.

WEAR SAFETY GLASSES.

Fat line = Low side = suction side

All cars sold in the US must use R134a from 1994MY ONWARD (The XJ6 in 1993 used R134a) All X300 use R134a.

The service ports are different sizes so the Blue one goes on the low side and the Red one to the high side. They won't go on any other way.

You can get the system checked for leak if it it has one once sorted get is re-gased then the check the system for gas leaks again..
