Default Air smells terrible

Whenever I turn on the ventilation (whether its cooled or not), it smells terribly musty, like a combination of mold, body odor, and the gods knows what else. It makes me keep my windows down rather than use the A/C even in these summer months.

Are there services that thoroughly clean out the air ducts/system? Also, once that is done, are there filters that should be replaced to maintain air quality?

I may well be wrong, but I don't believe the X300 has any ventilation filters.

Cars can develop a mold/fungus issue in climate control systems. I know there are DIY solutions available in spray can form that are sprayed into the air intake, the cowl vent on an X300.

There is also a heavy duty treatment offered by some A/C shops that fills the entire duct system with a disinfecting foam until it oozes out the dash vents.

Hey there, five spped is correct I believe.... If you do not use your A/C on a regular basis the mold / fungi and bacteria just love to multiply in that warm moist place. The trick is to use your A/C often to keep it in good order.

I'd say to help resolve your issue, there is a product made by Comma
link that neutralises these and freshens up the car....you may need to operate it twice if ts that bad. Its as simple as starting the car, closing all the windows and turning on A/C full blast as cold as possible. Move both front seats as far forward as possible and press the nozzle on the can ( it will then run untill empty ) and close the door for 5 mins.......It runs through your entire system deodorising and neutralising your problem.
I'm sure you must have similar products over there....check out google or similar

Good luck

Jaguar addressed this issue in 1996.
You can use several different products to combat mold or fungus in the HVAC (frigifresh from BG or WYNNS air conditioner treatment). Use your own judgement using spay chemicals into the evap core.

Here is the TSB
