Default Buying an XJR

I found an XJR in my area for 2000 dollars. Appears to be in good condition from the ad. I'm mostly here to ask whether there are any major problems with this car or stuff that likes to break.

The XJRs are great cars....but I'll admit to being a bit biased.

At the top of this section, in one the FAQ/sticky threads, is an X300 buyers guide. I suggest reading it first (it's short) and then, if you need more detailed information, post back.

Welcome aboard by the way!

Cheers

Thanks! I'll check the car out, at least. If it's not up to par there's always the '94 S4 I've been looking at.

I didn't read anything about this in the buyer's guide but how difficult/expensive is it to get parts for this car?

Mechanical X300 parts are generally quite reasonable and easy to find. Trim/appearance items tend to be expensive.

Some of the parts unique to the "R" model are discontinued....a bit worrisome for owners.

As long as I can get bits and pieces to keep it drivable I'm okay. Do you know what parts are discontinued? Thanks for all your help!

Market value is low on these cars but, still, you're in the bargain basement price range at $2000 so don't get your hopes up too high.

Supercharger bypass valve for one. Pistons/rings/bearings...although that applies to all AJ16 4.0 liter engines really. No demand = no supply.

There are a couple other items that I can't recall at the moment.
