This might be a strange question but I don;t know the answer so here goes when I use my Auto and set my temp at 72 F the auto light comes on be so does the A/C light is this normal in an XJR 1997?

 

It's normal. I believe it just means the AC compressor is on, making the air colder. I'm not certain, but that's what I think. I can tell you that it's not a problem.

Right. Whenever you hit "auto" the compressor defaults to "on" and the button indicator lights up. You can defeat the compressor operation by simply pressing the "a/c" button as I recall. When you do, the "auto" light goes off as well.

Or...something like that.

I played around with mine a long time ago, satisfied my curiosity that the compressor could be defeated, and then promptly forgot about it ! :-)
