Default Can I use a 96 or 97 PCM in a 95 car?

Can a 96 or a 97 PCM be used in a 95? Can the chips from 96/97 be swapped into a 95 ECM? Looks like 95 ECM software has issues, I am wondering if there are other differences between the years that will prevent later PCM from working in earlier car.

Also, are PROMs available from any vendors? I also know that there was a recall that required updated chips. Are they still available?

Page 16 on the Recall/Service Action (R493) has the part numbers for the PROM kits.

There are 7 different kits for cars with EGR. The 1995 MY XJR was NOT included in the recall because it does not have an EGR.

So really there are 8 PROM kits for the X300 SEDAN and some more for the XJ-S 4.0 with the AJ16 engine.

I always installed the correct PROMs so I don't know of the consequences for swapping proms between Model Ranges.
