i have a 1996 xj6 with 112,000 miles. it has ran excellent until three days ago. the check engine light came on and now the rpm are unstable and are very high compared to what the used to be. at 30mph the rpms shoot up to almost 2200 even when i come to a stop (car still in drive)the rpms shoot up and down. all the other gauges are fine. not over heating ect. could this be the mass air sensor. i just gave this car to my daughter. any help would be great. i plan on doing the repair myself with help from a mechanic friend of mine. but he is not a jaguar person. thank you
