Clicking noise when I press brake, please help!
hello, I have a 96 x300 and everytime I press on the brake when I am driving I hear a clicking noise from behind the dash that just started a few weeks ago, is this a faulty break light switch? Cause my back break late dosent always engage, or sometimes takes about 5-10 sec to light up when I press the brake, please help, thanks
It does sound like the brake light switch is going out because of the weird operation of the brake lights. I had the same thing happen.
The switch isn't really hard to replace but its just a little awkward working there. Took me about 40 minutes, I think.
My '95 required an adapter harness to make the new switch work, which about doubled the price. Not sure if it would be needed on a '96, as a '96 may have already been built with the later style switch.
Are you sure the clicking isn't coming from the console area? The shift interlock solenoid makes quite a loud click. A 'not in park" switch prevents the solenoid form operating unless the gearshift is in "P" so you don;t have to hear the click all day long
Cheers
