Connect battery, engine starts while keys in hand!
I mean input signal would be there.
output signal would depend on bpm
maybe it is region specific slcm supplying the signal.
it really seems to me like something in the region specific modules as the actual wiring is the same.
it is the inly point of difference

So maybe it is the SLCM that controls it.
when it gets the signal engine is on it sends the signal down the purple wire to the bpm and then the bpm turn the lights on.
in this case, yes @Parker 7 providing a signal to this wire will turn the lights on.
question is then, how would one provide this signal to a non canadian car? Asside from splicing the wiring into power it would be a feature programmed into canadian slcms.
this then begs the question to me, what is the point and reason of so many different bpms? As the logical
assumption is different region specific functions.
either way if it is bpm controlled or slcm controlled or both, cutting this wire will disable it, and it would be a little more complicated (requiring splicing power to this wire at a minimum) to turn the function on in other regions.
i really enjoy these discusions..

As a Jaguar X300 internet influencer I think it was a new feature for any car manufactured at the time
Removing the signal would be a safe bet , putting 12 volts on a data wire is risky as it's probably looking for 5 and could blow the reception decoder / resolver
We had problems with flight management computers training on how to operate and fix them as Boeing and Honeywell would guard their proprietary information
Lawyer's vs. safe flight operations

Yep. Another reason i say its easy to remove but hard to add.
signal that is decoded by a module is not so simple.
maybe i should have got an older model where everything is just straight 12v power and wiring schematics.
no computers just wiring, switches and relays.
haha.
nah….
this is a great fun beautiful car

Guys, thank you for all the input. Tonight was another prime example why I'd like to disable this "feature". I pulled up to a restaurant where my wife was going in to order takeout. It's relatively cold outside so I wanted to run the car, but the lights where shining into the wall of windows on customers. So I turned the car off. There is no way to sit there with the car running and only the parking lights on.
I'm working on a buddies bmw z4 this "friday night cars and pizza at the shop" so I won't be able to work on this. However, as soon as I can I'll try to sort this out. I'll try to find out what voltage this wire has when the engine starts. I might have the pin removal tool to simply remove the pin at the connector rather than cutting the wire. What would be really cool would be to source a similar light switch with one more stop so you could have off, park, on, auto like all modern cars, by running that purple wire through that switch. Or perhaps running that purple wire through the standard switch breaking the connection when the switch is set to off or maybe even off and park. On would then simply be the auto button when the car was running. Hmmm. I guess this depends on the makeup of this switch. Ideas?
Of course my next question is where are these modules? I think I read where the SLCM is in the drivers door? Where is the BCM?
I've been reading about memory seats and key fob remotes here and there has been reference to the SLCM there as well. As I need to sort out this potential aftermarket alarm and key fob not working, I might need a plan to check out several things in and around the SLCM.

You could wire in an extra switch into this wire.
it would then allow you to have auto function.
recently just installed a remote relay so i can turn my lights on/off remotely when the car is off and i am not at it.
incase i need light
I was looking to buy a light sensor relay board and wire it into my lights and add an auto function maybe one day at one point

A switch on the purple wire would be a good idea
I have pics on the BPM and the 2 connectors, but my computer is messing up so may not be able to retrieve
There is the possibility to remove the connector on the BPM and leave BPM installed ( it's buried behind the glove box )
There is a hard reset for the SLCM and BPM but need to know if you have the original Jaguar / Alpine stereo head , this may resolve your FOB issue
The SLCM is behind the large fwd panel in the trunk fwd of the car's left trunk hinge , it's mounted at an angle up by the fuel filler neck
The SLCM part # is world region specific and there is a late model version

on the note of SLCM and fob not working, i had that issue, not sure exactly what it was, dead fob, slcm issue, not sure as i had no other fobs to test with.
but if you see my post here. jump to the end of the thread and see my installation
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...hreads-252857/
you can see that i wired in an aftermarket keyless entry kit (as per suggestion from another aussie member) that connected into the wiring and slcm to give me remote entry.
at some point i am thinking to upgrade this and go for a push button/remote start proximity locking kit.

Tomorrow I'm calling the previous owner, (good car guy) with a list of questions to hopefully help me resolve a few issues. One is were the key fobs working!
I received a huge folder with all of his records. Probably 20K in receipts over the 20 years he owned it. All Jag dealerships. I didn't see anything about key fobs.
We basically finished my buddies Z4 tonight. My "new" XJR is next.

I forgot to answer Parkers question. The original stereo head is installed. CD changer and amp in the trunk. The radio works. I haven't tested the CD changer yet. My intention was to send the head unit to these guys https://factoryradioservices.com to have bluetooth installed.
nice way to do a cheeky little upgrade and maintain the factory unit and look.
i did consider doing that but then decided to go all out and do a huge overhaul.
if you are going to add bluetooth i would also suggest getting the AUX input upgrade.
not only does sound quality degrade on bluetooth but you may find at some point you wish to connect something that can't via bluetooth and need aux.

By adding bluetooth you degrade the signal to the head
There is a mod done by many to wire in a input jack wire bypassing the cassette player
Pic coming
The reason for the question on the stereo head is the anti - theft feature of the original factory stereo head that is not applicable for USA models , Does he have a security code in his paperwork
This relates to a hard reset of the SLCM and BPM dragging the stereo head into the process of locking it out from use as a anti - theft feature
