Default Battery?

Ok, So we've had our S-type for a year now and no glaring issues despite the reads in the forum here. Transmission was service before we got it and so far so good.

Wife dropped kids off at school today(25 miles away) and when she returned home, as she was exiting the freeway it just died. You can start the car just fine but 3 seconds after it starts it dies. Articles on here seem to indicate it was a battery problem. For grins, I took my truck and jumped the car. It started up and died like before. I then left my truck idling, came in and looked at some more threads. Went back to the car 15 minutes later and it started up without a hitch.( Truck still running and battery jumped )

So thinking it was battery, located a local battery place that had the particular battery in stock with intention to purchase, took my battery down and gentleman tested my battery and said it was good. Matter of fact he looked at the sticker on the battery and said mine was 2014 model model( could be that dealer replaced battery, that I don't know). He said his hand held unit was not just a voltage reader but also tested load. Sooooo didn't buy battery.

Came home, wire brushed off battery contacts and re-installed. Ignition and accessories come on but car won't turn over now. Battery?

What IS the PROPER way to install a Battery in my STYPE? Is there such a thing?

At this time I am thinking PATS is preventing the starter from engaging. Is there a particular sequence of events I need to follow after replacing the battery?

Neither your initial or present symptoms sound like a bad battery.

Well. that was odd. Left Car alone last night after being a bit taxed on the issue, Red P light was on shift console. Anyway woke up this morning, called a tow company to take it into the garage and when they got here and attempted to move car in Neutral, found out battery was dead or seemed to be. Jumped Car and moved into neutral for towing....

Its a shops issue now....thx

Possible bad key switch. Does the little flapper close when you remove the key? Maybe some graphite to lube up the ignition key switch would be a good idea?

It's hard to tell on the first generation S Type but us 2nd gen guys can tell by if the parking brake is automatically applied. A red light goes on in the instrument cluster to let us know.

I don't think you have seen the last of this and I also agree it's not a battery problem.

Your key should work well.
